He's Gone

The coach, not the dog.

It is being leaked that Texas A&M has agreed to a buyout of Dennis Franchione's contract. The news and details are neither being confirmed nor denied, but it's a matter of time.

Rumor has it that due to the VIP Connection scandal, the Aggies have a case for breach of contract, and will only need to pay him a year's salary of $2,000,000 for a buyout. Otherwise, A&M would be on the hook for upwards of $8,000,000. Boy, that's a big price to pay, at $1200 a subscription. And, Fran will never make this kind of money again.

Among the candidates for the A&M job is Tommy Tuberville, head coach of Auburn. Tuberville survived Auburn super-booster Bobby Lowder's attempt to fill his job with the clandestine interview of then-Louisville coach Bobby Petrino in 2003. Tuberville answered by coaching War Eagle to an undefeated season in 2004. The Ags have some high-powered boosters, but none as wheels-off as Lowder.

Undeniable truth of life: An Aggie is an Aggie is an Aggie.

The coach was a real dog, though.

They won't do anything until the end of the season ... they say. We'll see!

Fran is out ... what sorry coach are they going to hire now? ;)

Who would take a job where in most years, you are finishing third in your division behind OU and Texas?

On the other hand, the Ags pay really well, so it's worth it to a coach to suck for 5 years and laugh all the way to the bank.

Tuberville wants out of Auburn, and the Ags want him, so the job is his as soon as he can take it, IMO.

Actually, under the Fran reign, Tech passed A&M for the traditional third position in the Big 12 South. The new coach will be competing with OSU for 4th place in the Big 12 South.
