Ugly Uniform of the Day

It's been a few days since there has been a UUOTD. My apologies. I have a new job which takes me out of town during the week, working long hours, for a ton more money. However, I haven't forgotten about the blog.

Today's ugly uniform is not worn by the Patriots, nor by the Jets. It is a version of the new NFL officials' uniform, worn by the official in the background. It's hard to find pictures of the refs, so this is the best I could find at this time.

The NFL redesigned the officials' uniform this year. Overall, they're not bad. However, these black pants they wore during Sunday's AFC playoff game are hideous. They look almost like black parachute pants from the 80's. I understand the need to stay warm in cold-weather locations such as Foxboro. That is fine. I don't want them to freeze any more than they have to. But, they could at least wear white pants, as they did in the snow games earlier in the season in Denver.

Note to NFL: Keep the refs warm, but the white pants go better with zebra stripes than black pants.

I don't care about white or black pants ... it's the fact that there's a striped shirt and only one stripe on the pants that looks crazy to me. Not that I want all stripes on the pants. I think a solid would look better than that stripe. Any solid.

So what's the new job? Yay for a ton more money! :)

I think you're right on the stripe. It makes the whole thing look unstable. Maybe that's what I liked better about the white pants.

I am working as a consultant on development of training materials. Right now, I'm working on site at a defense contractor in Dallas. I fly to Love Field on Sunday night/Monday morning, and fly back Thursday evenings. I get paid to edit training materials for an implementation of SAP. I am in a contract through March, which I hope leads to either a permanent gig, or an even better contract. Either of those possibilities look good right now. The money was too good to refuse, and well worth the while. It's good to be back in the realm of training.

And you can listen to the Ticket without online streaming. Welcome back to the nuturing biosphere of the DFW area (and the ticket ;) - you and Mark Followill!

Back in the nurturing bosom of the little Ticket...me and the most abrasive, over-the-top personality in the Dallas-Fort Worth market: the Cobra. (here he is, the Cobra! here's Cobra!)

Often imitated, never duplicated..

I did some searching last night about the Ticket and found Rocco Pandola's blog. It was pretty interesting what he had to say about his time there.

I was laughing so hard today listening to the greatness of the Ticket. Oh, and check out their wiki page sometime.

I'll never forget the day Rocco Pendola tried to circumnavigate Belt Line Road. That may have been the high point of his tenure at the little Ticket.

The parent company of the Ticket has converted a Houston station to all sports, and is calling it ESPN 97.5-The Ticket. Right now, it's just ESPN radio shows and a simulcast of the audio of ESPN News. They would do well to find someone to copy the Hardline, but it's hard to find copies of Rines and the Hammer. They'll probably just play the generic Mike and Mike, Colin Cowherd, and Dan Patrick.

That's the station that used to have Phil Valentine on it (as far as conservative radio talk show hosts, he's pretty good ... I got to hear about his rally to stop the state income tax thing in TN and it was pretty interesting and successful ... but Glenn Beck is still the funniest [sort of like the Hardline of political radio talks shows with a yuck monkey and everything {More-on Trivia is hillarious! Reminds me of Fun with Old People}] and just signed on with Good Morning America even though he already has a radio show and a nightly hour show on CNNHN). I hate that he got the boot for the spareness of Mike and Mike in the mornings. Too bad.

That makes me think of my Sirius radio. I really like it ... really, but if I could just get the Ticket on it while I was out of town ... then it would be perfect!

If the Ticket got themselves onto satellite radio, they would be unstoppable! I have to admit, though, the Hardline is an acquired taste, and would be hard for people outside North Texas to appreciate. If I'm in another city, and the car has satellite radio, I still tend to lean to the local stations, as radio should be local. I'm coming around on that, though. The satellite music channels are good.

I only know about four radio stations in Houston: the two spare AM sports stations, the Christian station, and the Mix station. I guess the new Ticket-Houston makes five. Mike and Mike are ok, Colin Cowherd is pretty good when he's not talking about OU, and I can do without Dan Patrick the sports host.

If I'm in the DFW area and it's 2:30-7pm, I'm all over local radio. I also listen to KLIF if I'm off when Beck is on (9-11am). Other than that I'm all over Sirius and I do love their music stations. You can't hear all that variety locally. My saved favorite artists range from Stevie Wonder, Parliment, Andy Hunter, Jack Johnson, Johnny Cash, The Fixx, to The Raconteurs. I love the random mix.

I just read Rocco's blog. He's weird. I like Irvine. He thinks it's strange.

As for conservative talk show hosts, I pretty much stick to Rush and Sean, and Dan Patrick here in Houston. This is a different Dan Patrick, one that just got elected to the Texas State Senate, and is to the right of the modern Republican party. His main soapbox is property taxes.

In Dallas, I remember the time I spend listening to the little Ticket, and I even listen to Bob and Dan, as well as the Hardline and Dunham and Miller.

Rocco is Rocco. He's weird, but I'm sure he fits right in with the CA people. ;)

The way he writes is like he talks and I keep thinking I need to read it faster to get the full affect of how he would sound. I hope he mellows out.

I'd love to see TCU go into Austin and whip the Horns. They did it in Norman, and there's no reason they can't do it in Austin.

ESPN/ABC are so far up the Rose Bowl's you-know-what that they probably are obligated to call it the Rose Bowl presented by Citi. Notice the Rose Bowl thinks they are too good to be just the Citi Rose Bowl. No, they have to have a "presenting" sponsor. Spare me the superiority complex, please. I was just sick of the over-promotion of the Rose Bowl for a month before the game, including the countdown clock for three days before New Year's.

I'm ready for a Washington State vs. Indiana matchup in that game. ABC and the Rose Bowl would hate it!

The comments section of my blog were blocked at work today. I could read the posts, but not the comments.

We'll see what happens tomorrow. :-)
